Our Process
Primary Care Recruitment. Done Properly.

How the process works
For Candidates
- Under 5 minutes
Register Online
Submit your CV and professional details via our secure registration portal. We ask for the basics — your name, contact details, GMC or NMC number, specialty, and preferred location. No lengthy forms and no telephone screening before you are ready.
- Within 24 hours
Speak to a Specialist Consultant
A primary care recruitment consultant — someone who works exclusively in your sector, not a generalist — will contact you within 24 hours. We take time to understand your situation: where you want to work, what flexibility you need, your rate expectations, and any personal circumstances that matter.
- We handle this for you
Compliance Verification
Our compliance team verifies every credential required before your first placement. This includes real-time GMC or NMC registration checks, DBS verification, indemnity certificate review, right to work documentation, occupational health clearance, two clinical references, and all mandatory training certificates.
- Tailored to you
Matched to the Right Roles
We match you to locum sessions or permanent roles based on your specialty, location preferences, availability, and rate requirements. We work across GP surgeries, PCNs, urgent treatment centres, OOH providers, and NHS Trusts. We will not present you with roles that are unsuitable, too far away, or at rates below your minimum.
- Ongoing support
Placement, Timesheets & Aftercare
We manage all the administrative overhead — booking confirmation, timesheet processing via our dedicated app, invoicing, and payment. Our consultants stay in contact after placement to ensure the working arrangement is right for you and to address any issues quickly.
For Clients
- Immediate response
Tell Us What You Need
Contact us by phone, email, or via our vacancy registration form. We need the basics: the role, the dates, the location, the clinical requirements, and the rate. For planned cover, a brief is all we need. For urgent requirements, a two-minute phone call is enough to get us started.
- Pre-screened
We Source & Screen Candidates
We draw from our active network of pre-verified primary care clinicians. Every candidate we present has already had their compliance checked — registration confirmed online, DBS verified, indemnity reviewed, references obtained. You are not screening from scratch for each placement.
- Your decision
Review & Confirm
We present you with one or more suitable candidates. You review their profile and confirm the booking — or let us know if the fit is not right and we will source an alternative. There is no pressure, no hard sell, and no obligation to accept the first candidate presented.
- We manage it
We Handle Everything Else
Booking confirmation, timesheet management, invoicing and payment, compliance maintenance and renewals — we manage all of it. You receive a single, clear invoice. The clinician arrives prepared and compliant. If anything changes on either side, we are reachable immediately.
- Long-term partnership
Feedback & Ongoing Partnership
After each placement, we actively seek your feedback. If a clinician was excellent, we prioritise them for future bookings with you. If something was not right, we address it immediately. Our goal is not a single placement — it is to become your trusted staffing partner for all primary care requirements.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Every clinician. Every placement. Fully verified.
We do not present a candidate to a client until every compliance requirement has been satisfied. No exceptions.
GMC / NMC Registration
Real-time online verification of licence to practise — confirmed current before every placement.
Enhanced DBS
Current enhanced DBS certificate required. We track renewal dates and alert candidates proactively.
Professional Indemnity
Indemnity certificate reviewed — correct cover type, current dates, and appropriate scope verified.
Mandatory Training
Safeguarding L3, BLS, IG, Fire Safety, Manual Handling — all checked current before first session.
Clinical References
Two satisfactory clinical references from recent supervisors — verified and on file for every candidate.
Right to Work
UK right to work documentation verified in line with current UKVI requirements before any placement.
Why SHR Group
What makes us different
The primary care staffing market is crowded with generalist agencies that treat GP and ANP recruitment as one of twenty verticals. We do not. Primary care is the only sector we work in, and that focus produces measurably better outcomes for both candidates and clients.
- 98%Client satisfaction rate across all placements
- 170+Five-star verified reviews from candidates and clients
- <2hrAverage response time to new vacancy requirements
- 100%Primary care specialist — no other sectors, ever
Primary Care Only — No Generalists
Our consultants know the difference between a PCN Clinical Director and a Practice Manager. They understand QOF, ARRS, IR35 for NHS locums, and the GP Performers List. That depth of knowledge is impossible at a generalist agency.
Compliance Managed Centrally
We hold and maintain every candidate's compliance pack. You never have to chase a DBS or verify indemnity yourself. We track renewal dates and notify candidates proactively — so nothing lapses between placements.
Emergency Cover Within Hours
When a GP calls in sick at 7am, you need someone by 8:30am. Our pre-verified network and after-hours availability means we can often source emergency cover for same-day or next-morning sessions.
NHS Framework Approved
SHR Group is an approved supplier on NHS procurement frameworks, enabling compliant engagement by GP practices, PCNs, and NHS Trusts without additional procurement process for eligible requirements.

Common Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about working with SHR Group — whether you are a clinician or a practice.
How quickly can SHR Group place a locum GP?
For urgent or emergency cover, we can often source and place a fully compliant locum GP within 24 to 48 hours. For planned cover, we typically present verified candidates within one to two working days of receiving your requirement. Our pre-verified candidate network means compliance is not a bottleneck.
Is SHR Group on the NHS Framework?
Yes. SHR Group is an approved supplier on relevant NHS procurement frameworks, enabling GP practices, PCNs, and NHS Trusts to engage us compliantly for temporary and permanent clinical staffing without separate procurement processes for eligible requirements.
What compliance checks do you carry out on candidates?
We verify GMC or NMC registration (online, real-time), enhanced DBS certificate, professional indemnity insurance coverage and scope, right to work in the UK, occupational health clearance, two satisfactory clinical references, and all mandatory training requirements including Safeguarding Children Level 3, Safeguarding Adults, Basic Life Support, Information Governance, Fire Safety, and Manual Handling.
Do you work with both locum and salaried GPs?
Yes. We place GPs in both locum (sessional) and permanent salaried or partnership roles. We also support portfolio working arrangements — for example, a combination of regular anchor sessions and a part-time salaried post. Many of the GPs we work with use both services at different stages of their career.
How do candidates get paid when placed through SHR Group?
Candidates submit timesheets via our dedicated iOS and Android app (SHR Group E-Timesheets). Once the timesheet is approved, payment is processed promptly. Candidates operating as sole traders or through limited companies invoice us directly. We also offer PAYE and umbrella company arrangements for those who prefer it. Our consultants can advise on the most appropriate payment structure for your circumstances.
Can SHR Group help with ARRS recruitment for our PCN?
Yes. ARRS workforce planning and recruitment is one of our core services for PCN Clinical Directors and Practice Managers. We can advise on role eligibility, help you build the right clinical mix for your patient population, and source pre-verified ANPs, ACPs, clinical pharmacists, paramedic practitioners, and social prescribing link workers across England.
What happens if a placed candidate cancels at short notice?
We take short-notice cancellations seriously and have a clear escalation process. If a placed candidate cancels with less than 24 hours notice, we immediately begin sourcing a replacement at no additional cost to the client where possible. We maintain a pool of available clinicians specifically for cover situations, and our consultants are reachable outside standard business hours for genuine emergencies.
